A lot of people I know think of meditation as sitting down, closing your eyes, and not doing anything for hours. In some schools of thought, that’s one way to meditate. One. For some, it involves constant chanting and mudras. And for others, meditation is something as simple as a mindful walk in the morning or writing in a journal or taking a sip on that first cup of tea.
We all have our own meditations and we don’t need to be confined to one type of meditation. I have this buddhist book that I read on and off and it gives a handful of meditations to do, all of them being incorporated with daily life. Hell, chewing your food mindfully can be a meditation! I think the entire point is not what you do, but how you do it. This afternoon I plan on working in my garden and I find doing that extremely meditative. There’s something soothing and grounding about it. I don’t see it as a chore and I’m happy to do it.
So what’s your meditation in life?
